The Vinyl Cutter and Settings

FOR T-SHIRTS ONLY!!! Regardless of whether you reverse your image in Adobe Illustrator, be sure that the image is reversed (mirrored/refected) in the LXI Apprentice software (like the image below). If it is not reversed, then click on the little "F" button until it is. Sometimes, students will enable this function but fail to disable it and students who reversed their images in Illustrator will work under the impression that it is correct. Always look to make sure that the image is backwards. If it is, you are good to go.

One more thing to be aware of is that LXI attempts to "send all colors" at one time. We want to disable this.

Make sure this button is unchecked.

The Heat Press

  1. Double check to make sure the heat press is set to 375 degrees F
  2. Position your shirt/fabric onto the Heat Press table so that it is centered
  3. Hold down the Heat Press handle so that it makes contact with the fabric. Hold it for five seconds - this will iron the shirt and remove any potential moisture trapped in the fabric.
  4. Lift the handle after five seconds and then position your design so that it is centered on the fabric.
  5. Lay a Teflon sheet down on top of your design and shirt before pressing - NOT DOING THIS WILL DAMAGE YOUR VINYL AND MAY DAMAGE THE MACHINE
  6. Pull the heat press handle down and lock it in place for 15 seconds. If you cannot get the heat press to lock down, please ask for assistance. Not doing so means that full pressure is not applied and your design will not properly bond to the fabric.
  7. After fifteen seconds, lift the handle and remove your shirt/fabric.
  8. Allow to cool to room temperature before removing the plastic application material
  9. Repeat this process for the remaining colors
  10. ALWAYS CLEAN UP YOUR MESS - THROW YOUR SCRAPS IN THE GARBAGE
  11. Submit to your instructor for approval and your grade (Be sure to take a photo of your shirt and save it to your folder where you keep all of your Vinyl Graphics Assembly)
  12. Wear proudly and loudly
